Negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation.
This Course Learning Outcome was practiced extensively in the memos assigned this semester. This is because with a memo, audience was one particular individual or set of individuals, and I catered the writing for their eyes.
This Course Learning Outcome is with regards to getting what you want from the conversation you are having through your writing to your audience. This was practiced in our memo’s because the memo’s are the most direct form of dialogue used this semester. With a memo there is a very specific audience, and you know exactly what you want from that audience.
In my memo regarding the scheduling and cancelling of courses, I knew exactly what I want from the department, and I knew (to the best of my ability) what the aims of the department were. Once I know these two things, I can frame the issue in such a way that our wants are aligned so that they push for the action that I want.
In my opinion, this Course Learning Outcome really represents stratagem. We practiced this outcome more than I expected to this semester.
